Lunch in Palma offers a myriad of choice. The Spanish stomach runs on a slightly later schedule than most of us are used to. Whilst we hear the rumble about 12.30pm, the Spanish still push on for another hour or so.
From a quick sandwich on the run, traditional tapas in a bodega, a stand up market lunch or fine dining, Palma has it all.
But sometimes my time slot for lunch is limited so here are a few ideas for lunch on the run in Palma.
Ombu
Situated at the Cathedral end of Passeig del Born, the service at Ombu is efficient and friendly and the food is just delicious. Offering an Asian fusion tapas menu, do not leave without trying the tomato crystal bread and the seabass ceviche. My favourites.
Cappuccino
This group of restaurants has several branches in Palma, with their most recent opening in Plaça Cort inside their very own 5 Star hotel, Hotel Mama. A perfect spot to watch the world go buy. The menu is a mix of European style fare, such as a selection of tasty salads and sandwiches. The service is swift and friendly.
Santosha
Santosha at Carrer del Metge Matas, 2 is run by Ruth and Erin and is a haven of calm. This is a find and a locally kept secret ! The menu is super healthy, varied with international flavours and everything is cooked fresh to order.
Service is swift and always with a smile from owners Ruth and Erin.
Offering breakfast and lunch all day it is a beautifully decorated light and spaceous restaurant. Also offering coffee and a wide selection of cakes and pastries.
Born 8
After a Cathedral visit or some retail therapy, you might find yourself in Passeig del Born. If so, head for Number 8. It is actually a cafe/restaurant . Take aways can be ordered at the counter but, if you have time sit, there is ample seating inside and outside on the pedestrianised Born. Enjoy a bocadillo ( sandwich ) or one of their yummy cakes.
Restaurant Xalest
One of my new favourite go-to spots is at Concepció by Nobis. Its location is perfect just off Jaime III and just minutes Paseo del Borne. An inspired menu of tapas, salads and rice dishes is offered by talented young chef Xema Álvarez. Tuck into a mixed plate of croqueta with red prawns and Iberian ham, Spanish omelette and Tuna tartar. For dessert savour the Crema catalana, delicious. Service is swift and super friendly.
Don´t be fooled by the location of this restaurant in one of the four corners of Plaza Mayor, often seen as something of a tourist trap. Wine and Food Restaurant is different, serving local and international cuisine all cooked fresh to perfection by local Mallorcan chefs.
Mouth watering octopus, padron peppers, salads, ceviche and paellas cooked to order. Crema catalana for a sweet fix. Yum. Staff are welcoming and helpful. Make your way here as you pass through Plaza Mayor or walk down Calle Sindicat and you won’t be disappointed.
These are my favourites for lunch on the run in Palma but, wherever you find yourself, the food will never disappoint!
¡Buen provecho!
