Heritage meets creativity at Hotel Ca n’Alexandre in the heart of the old town of Palma. This recently opened boutique hotel has a fascinating story to tell.
It is housed in the former home of Jaume Alexandre, a leading liberal politician and journalist of the 1930s who ultimately lost his life to the Franco regime along with Emil Darder, the last Republican Mayor of Palma.
Almost a century later his granddaughter and two great-granddaughters, Monsina and Sofiá, have now reinvented what was their family home to become a 23 bedroom hotel for visitors from across the globe and have named it in honour of their heroic ancester.
During the long renovation of Hotel Ca n´Alexandre the family worked tirelessly to preserve as many Mallorcan elements as they could of the fabric of the building such as the natural sandstone blocks or marés, iron beams, tiles and balustrades.
They even uncovered an Arabic “aljub” or water cistern beneath the building which they managed to preserve and which now offers a space for meetings and private events.
Bringing a wealth of experience from their already thriving Son Siurana Agrotourismo in the north of the island, sisters Monsina and Sofiá have succeeded flawlessly in ensuring this pocket perfect hotel remains true to its history and offers a modern comfortable stay in the heart of Palma.
Offering 23 uniquely designed guest rooms, with just three room categories spread over three floors, guests will enjoy their stay from check-in to check-out.
My favourite is the double superior room with terrace balcony allowing sweeping views of the rooftops and steeples of the city’s skyline.
The bedrooms are uniquely decorated showcasing Mallorcan crafts such as the handmade floor tiles, bespoke lamps and furniture.
The location of Hotel Can Alexandre is perfect. In the heart of the old town and shopping district, minutes from the lively Plaza Major and a short stroll to the Bay of Palma and its glorious beach. From this perfect haven, you can walk to the imposing Gothic Cathedral of La Seu in minutes.
The city’s wide selection of restaurants and abundant shopping are on your doorstep. All the sites of Palma are within walking distance from Ca n’Alexandre so you can be car free.
With its genuine and personalised service this hotel offers the perfect location for a city break.

Something Different
All day dining and the menu del dia where local Palmesanos and visitors gather over the most delicious cuisine and the prices are a steal!
The restaurant offers breakfast, sandwiches with local Llonguet bread and a 3 course changing menu with organic products from the family’s estate of Son Siurana.
What's Special
As Monsina walks around with me, she casually points out that all the artwork is her own and that she handmade all the bedrooms` lamps. The bedside lamps are wrought from iron and wood and are works of art in themselves. And Monsina herself did all the welding!
The hotel fittings and fixtures, all bespoke, were commissioned from local craftsmen; the side tables, curtain rails and wall lights from an artisan in Esporles and the Spanish floor tiles from a workshop in Inca. The hotel showcases the very best workmanship, design and style that Mallorca has to offer.
Restaurants
Breakfast, which can be included in your room rate, is served in Cafe Alexandre on the ground floor between 08.00am and 11.00am. Offering a hot and cold buffet, freshly squeezed juices and freshly baked breads and pastries.
Cafe Alexandre is open all day for dining.
The Menu del Dia changes daily and offers three courses for just €13.00.
