Grand Hotel Son Net
Chic and sophisticated five-star all-suite Grand Hotel Son Net sits in a privileged position above the picturesque village of Puigpunyent offering far reaching vistas with the Tramuntana Mountains as backdrop.
Once the grand residence of the Net family, much of the original architecture such as balustrades, stone floors, vaulted ceilings and frescoes have been preserved and, following a three year renovation project, the hotel reopened recently. Complementing the history of this stunning palacio, it is now home to a bounty of carefully sourced antiques, sumptuous textiles and furnishings chosen by the creative eye of the art historian and interior designer Lorenzo Castillo.
Peace and serenity is guaranteed as the private driveway lined with towering palms and private vineyard beyond draws you up towards the main ivy-clad terracotta-hued house.
Stepping into the open-plan entrance hall complete with vaulted ceilings, stone floors and flooded by light from the interior courtyard, the welcoming staff are on hand to settle you in.
The relaxing sound of water cascading into the waterfall on the main terrace draws you outside to drink in those majestic valley views. Stretching out in front you is the valley of Puigpunyent, the beautifully maintained gardens and the generous 30 metre main pool flanked by lofty trees and terrace of cabanas. Find your spot, stretch out and breathe.
All the 31 suites including 7 grand suites are boldly decorated with a theatrical feel, with no-expense-spared fabrics, four poster beds, sink-into sofas and clever lighting to show off the art-adorned walls and antiques to their best advantage. Your every comfort is catered for, complimentary soft drinks, coffee machines, bathrobes and slippers. Oh and the bathrooms are vast, furnished in marble and truly luxurious.
No suite is the same and all are individually named and generous in size. The Grand Suite Jaime III ,for example, enjoys sweeping views from its 70 m2 first floor private terrace with panoramic views of the Galatzó mountain. There is also a cosy dining room, living room, separate bedroom with bathroom and dressing room !
But for sheer grandeur and, if the pocket allows, Grand Son Net Suite, larger than most apartments at 150 m2, preserves many of the original palatial features such as carved wood ceilings, large antique fireplace and original tiled floors opening onto a classic arched portico with unparalleled views of the pool and the Puigpunyent valley.
Set in the gardens away from the main house are four Pool Cottage Suites, sharing a swimming pool, each with private terrace, perfect for families and small groups and a stand-alone Pool Cottage House with its own garden and private pool.
There is a chic cocktail bar, The Green Bar, the perfect spot to try the hotel’s own Malvasia wine, which leads into the main Restaurant, Mar & Duix, the triple-height former olive press which spills onto the terrace. Mallorcan chef Sergi Olmeda oversees the kitchen with a classically balanced menu with ingredients from the kitchen garden and seasonal local produce.
With its own open-air kitchen, informal lunches are served during the warmer months at El Gazebo Restaurant overlooking the valley.
The spa is one of the largest on the island at over 1,000 square metres. Pass your time being pampered in one of the five treatment rooms with your chosen treatment from the extensive spa menu. There is also a sauna and steam room, heated pool and thermal circuit and of course Technogym machines positioned so as to take in that view and, for outdoor runners, there are numerous local running trails.
The location is perfect. Situated in the quiet foothills of the Tramuntana mountains, yet just 15 mins by car from Palma.
It’s hard to sum up the majesty of this meticulously renovated palacio, you really need to see Grand Son Net Hotel with your own eyes. Grand Son Net is about historic grandeur, an awe-inspiring palette of colours and fabrics, slick service and views at every turn.

Something Different
With its own private vineyard of Malvasia grapes first planted in 2006, Son Net has worked with a local bodega to produce and bottle its own wine since 2007. Served in the Hotel’s restaurants and bars, this 100% Malvasia natural wine captures the ripe, rich flavour of the surrounding landscape and the heritage of the island.
You can book a private tour during your stay to guide you through the unique properties of this grape variety and the process that transforms these plump fruits into a delicious wine, complete with tasting of course !
This tour is FREE of charge for all hotel guests who book through MallorcanTonic.
What's Special
Feeling on top of the world.
Sometimes the journey to get to a far-flung hotel in one of the world’s most impressive mountain ranges is arduous. No so here.

The hotel is cradled by the towering peaks of the Tramuntana including Puig de Galatzó at over 1000-metres, considered to be one of the best viewpoints on the island. Hike the trail to its summit, cycle the neighbourhood or just take a gentle stroll into the village if you can drag yourself away.
