Cap Rocat
A former military fort, Cap Rocat takes full advantage of its elevated position on a rocky headland offering panoramic views of the Bay of Palma.
One of five such 19th century fortresses around the Bay, this reinvention of its military past into a modern luxury hotel is outstanding.
Built in the island’s emblematic honey-toned sandstone, the hotel fits comfortably into it’s natural environment and it is this that guided the hand of architect Antonio Obrador in this stunning transformation.
In it’s secluded position, invisible from land or sea, serenity and privacy are assured. Dwarfed by the wide subterranean labyrinthine paths, the grand stone bridge and the giant gates as you are whisked around the property in a golf cart by staff in white-clad uniforms, you feel like you could be on a film set !
There are 26 beautifully appointed suites and two Fortaleza rooms, housed in the original cannon emplacements, former military quarters or tucked away into headland rock. The suites are divided into four categories and each is truly unique.
The Cap Rocat Suites enjoy three terraces. The Sentinel Suites are squirrelled into rock, with private pools overlooking the sea, the Suites de la Mar are boutique cottages set in their own gardens and the highly prized Suite de Cabo, which makes the most of its secluded location and it’s spacious 90 m2, gives you the freedom to waft between terraces at differing levels, splash in your own plunge pool and enjoy sublime sunsets from your gazebo.
The rooms are all finished to a high standard with stone flooring, sumptuous seating and heavenly beds.
There is no bar as such but drinks can be sipped on any of the terraces or patios or on your private terrace while you savour those sunset views.
There are two restaurants, the smart La Fortaleza located in the main building or the more relaxed Sea Club Restaurant ( pictured above ) overlooking the sea.
There are two pools, an infinity pool overlooking the Bay of Palma, flanked by cool and comfy white leather sun beds and an indoor heated pool in the spa.
There is also sea access without beach which is ideal for snorkelling to explore the marine reserve.
Discover the island from the sea by sailing aboard their electric boat allowing you to enjoy the island while taking care of it at the same time.
Perfect for the cooler months are two magnificent drawing rooms with small library, each with roaring fires and comfy sofas and adorned with quirky trinkets collected by the owner.
Cap Rocat service is discreet and swift. Cap Rocat is one of Europe’s most iconic hotels and, if you do get the opportunity to stay, it will surely be a memory to treasure.
