Perched high on a hillside just outside the pretty town of Artá and commanding panoramic vistas of the Bay of Alcudia is the sumptuous five-star Carrossa Hotel Spa Villas.
What would have been the manor house of this magnificent estate, which now acts as the centre piece of this 300 acre resort, has been beautifully renovated and with further additions now offers a first-class five-star hideaway.
You arrive through a welcoming grove of hundreds of almond trees which line the way leading to the hotel’s private carpark and the grand old manor house.
Carrossa is a new venture from the German-run Hamacher Resorts Group which is synonymous with superbly run, brilliantly efficient and stylish properties.
You will find 30 of Carrossa’s 75 rooms and suites in the main manor house as well as its two restaurants and the Oro Bar, a perfect place to enjoy a cocktail at the end of your hard day of relaxation.
Carrossa’s additional suites are just a couple of minutes’ walk from the manor house with a concierge on hand to whisk you over in a golf cart — perfect if you’ve got heavy bags or tired feet.
The huge heated outdoor infinity pool complete with relaxation loungers and pool bar sits in front of the main house with the Spa and Wellness area situated underneath.
The bedrooms in the main house fall into three categories, standard, deluxe and the classic suite. The rooms are light and bright, decorated in natural hues and textiles of taupe and cream, furnished in oak and complimented with accents of colour in the sumptuous armchairs and sofas.
The newly built suites set away from the main house have four categories and are furnished to the same high standard and exude maximum comfort. With natural stone floors, each offers a private furnished terrace with breathtaking views of the countryside or with views towards the Bay of Alcúdia. The addition of a pillow menu and the crisp Italian bed linen means you are assured of a good night´s sleep.
The resort also offers four newly built villas which can host up to ten guests, each with their own private infinity pools and offering an exceptionally high standard of design.
You can also enjoy fine dining in the Carrossa Restaurant or for a more casual event you can eat at Bistro Badia.
It isn’t hard to work out if there is anything missing at this new five star resort. Truly there isn’t. Perfect location, great outlook, countryside tranquility, yet you are just minutes from the beach. Impossible to drag yourself away from Carrossa Hotel Spa Villas.
I think it must be proximity to golf courses. Carrossa Hotel Spa Villas is the perfect base for golfers given the presence of four of the island’s leading 18-hole golf courses just a short drive away.
In just 15 minutes you can play at Capdepera, Canyamel, Pula and Son Servera. In a few minutes more towards Port d´Alcudia you reach Alcanada Golf Course. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr with spectacular views towards the Mediterranean, this is one course everyone should play.
Hamacher Hotels already enjoy a huge golf following so you will definitely have a fellow golfer to chat over the play of the day with!
Carrossa’s Hotel Spa Villas Spa Oasis is very generous. The state-of-the-art wellness centre was built and designed to the highest specification.
The saunas are spacious and the relaxation areas enjoy plenty of daylight from floor-to-ceiling windows. Spa fans can choose from a Finnish sauna, bio sauna or steam bath as well as showers offering different water effects and sounds, a refreshing ice fountain, or relax by the cosy fireplace.
Various beauty and massage treatments may also be booked and St Barths and QMS Medi are the products used.
If you want to keep fit, you can work out in the well-equipped modern fitness room.
Breakfast, which is included in the room price, is served between 07.00am - 11.00 am in the Carrossa Restaurant. A substantial buffet to choose from plus a hot menu with egg dishes and traditional delicacies.
Fine dining is also in the Carrossa Restaurant whose menu includes innovative Mediterranean cuisine with Asian influences created by Spanish chef Nicholas Gomez-Duran. The in-house sommelier is available to guide you through the wine menu which offers local Mallorcan, Spanish and internationally recognized wines. Dinner is a formal affair with small but perfectly-formed dishes combining a wealth of flavours.
Bistro Badia which spills out onto the terrace, weather permitting, offers a more casual menu focusing on Spanish and traditional tapas as well as international cuisine and of course freshly-caught fish from the Bay of Alcúdia.
