The Art Hotel Palma is unique. I´m sure it’s not something that you have thought much about, but ever fancied staying in an art gallery? Well now you can.
Literally a stone´s throw from Plaza Mayor in the heart of the old town of Palma, you will find this lovely new little bolthole. For ideas about how to spend your time in Palma have a look at the Visit Palma website.
In need of a change and inspired by all the new hotels opening, the well known antiques dealer Pepe Rubio, who has dedicated 40 years to collecting antiques, decided to change his profession and become an hotelier coming up with the genius idea to combine the two. And what a magnificent job he has made of it.
From the minute you enter the reception area at the Art Hotel Palma you are surrounded by historic objects of beauty. Renaissance mirror work from Italy, walls displaying original paintings and showcases of silver. But be assured it is not overwhelming, quite the opposite. In fact so many of the guests have been inquisitive about the pieces that the staff, with the help of Pepe, are now compiling a catalogue with further details about the individual works of art.
The bedrooms are all bright and quiet and have been decorated in neutral colours in order to show the antique pieces and works of art to their best advantage, whilst still offering guests the all mod cons you would expect as well as large comfortable beds ensuring a good nights sleep.
The bedrooms are spread over 5 floors, each with a landing allowing more antiques to be displayed.
Can you spot one of their two Miros ?
On the ground floor tucked behind reception, there is a lounge area with cosy sofas on which you can relax and have a drink and on the first floor a reading area and small library.
It has to be the antiques. I wouldn’t usually take an interest in antiques but, as I learned about the history of some of the pieces, I became more curious and wanted to hear more.
There is a pair of Italian mirrors, one in the breakfast room and one in the lounge which are just stunning. Also, two Miro works of art and the surprise for me was a magnificent chest of drawers on the top floor belonging originally to Archduke Luis Salvador of Austria who lived in Deià in the mid 19th Century and has a long association with Mallorca. Seen on the front cover.
For those who do enjoy art and the history of antiques, this is definitely the place for you and for those who wouldn’t normally be interested, this is the place for you to fall in love with the world of art.
It has to be the staff. In just a short six months, they have found themselves at the top of the leaderboard of service on Tripadvisor which is no mean feat.
The Manager has had many years experience in hoteling and was determined to ensure the team she assembled would work as a family and enjoy welcoming each and every one of their guests.
The comments left by the departing guests are testament to their hard work, consistency and kindness in making sure everyone´s stay is a memorable one. Just take a look at their outstanding scores on TripAdvisor.
Courtesy buffet breakfast is served between 8.00am-11.00am offering local Mallorcan products, freshly squeezed juices and pastries as well as warm eggs.
The hotel has it´s own restaurant, the Mari-lin Café Lounge, just a few metres from the hotel, where guests are invited to enjoy two complimentary tapas and a glass of Mallorcan wine or a bottle of cava.
