The words ‘flea market’ might put you off, but a visit to the Sunday morning Consell Market is an authentic Mallorcan experience not to be missed.
Open early from 8am until 2pm every Sunday in Consell it plays host to the largest and best second hand market in Mallorca.
And it’s vast. With over 300 stallholders displaying their wares, the sheer range of objects on sale is a sight to behold. There is something for everyone. Jewellery, antiques, books, furniture, toys, paintings, lamps, clothes, shoes, crockery, cutlery, tools, cameras, garden furniture, household items, bric-a-brac …the list is endless.
Set on a large commercial estate, the market gets busy, but the sheer size means it never feels crowded.
When you have had your fill of mooching and rummaging, there are two cafés, a barbeque serving delicious sausages and steak sandwiches and a pop-up bakery to satisfy your appetite.
There are two fixed vintage furniture warehouses on site selling larger items ready to ship worldwide, making it easier for you to take home a special piece from Mallorca.
Large or small, there will be something on sale that will catch your eye as a memento of your visit to the island.
Consell is an easy 30 minute drive from Palma and there is ample organised parking available for a modest charge. This market sits in the heart of the wine country so pick up a bottle or two as you pass through at Bodega Jose Ferrer open on a Sunday March to October.
In Catalan the flea market is known as ‘l’encant de Consell’ which means ‘the fair of old charms’ and I really cannot think of a more fitting description. Happy hunting !
