With an ever growing number of wineries on the island you are spoiled for choice but Oliver Moragues organic winery is certainly one not to miss. Set a couple of kilometres outside Algaida in the centre of the island, the estate is vast and the views spectacular across pine and oak forests in one direction and towards the Tramuntana mountains on the other.
Boasting an impressive history, Olivar Moragues is one of the oldest bodegas on the island, dating back to 1229 when King James I arrived on Mallorca.
Roll on 300 years to 1511 and the Moragues family purchased the estate and it has remained in the family ever since.
The vineyards are worked by hand following the principles of organic farming. The Bodega produces several red wines and one white wine. The reds include OM Oliver 500 using grape varieties such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Merlot, the OM Selecció a blend of Manto Negro, Merlot, Cabernet and Callet and their OM El Galgo 2019 meaning Greyhound is a best seller. The white, Pelut, is made from the Prensal grape and is delicious.
The Grand House, Possessió Binicomprat offers 12 rooms, suites and apartments, all completely renovated in recent years, where old and new blends seamlessly.
Sitting alongside the finca is a newly built state of the art winery with a galleried tasting room offering elevated views of the winery and the countryside beyond.
You can visit to the vineyard and enjoy a short wine tasting €19 or longer visits offering a guided tour and explanation about the processes at the winery and includes a tasting of five wines in the vaulted cellar of the finca.
