Party with Three Kings

So you think the celebrations are all over ? Well think again and Party with Three Kings!

In Mallorca the party has only just begun. First, there is New Years´s Eve with fireworks festivals and the tradition of eating 12 grapes one for each stroke of the clock at midnight to ensure good fortune and prosperity in the New year. Usually washed down by a glass (or three) of Cava! Then a short rest before one of the biggest events of the year, the annual festival of ´Los Tres Reyes´ or ´The Three Kings ´on 5th January.

The Spanish have traditionally saved their present giving to mark Epiphany, the 12th day of Christmas, when on the eve of 5th January the `Three Wise Men ´from the East arrived in Bethlehem bringing gifts for the new born Christ. So it is at dusk on 5th January that this event is re-enacted with a huge amount of glitz, glamour and spectacle all over the island as everyone attends parades and children prepare to receive their presents from The Three Kings.

Their magesties, The Three Kings, Melchor, Gazpar and Baltasar arrive by boat, on horseback, camel or in Sóller in the Tramuntana mountains on board the 100 year old tram!

The royal pages, musicians and dancers dispense huge handfuls of sweets to the waiting crowds as they pass and that same night children are traditionally supposed to leave their shoes out to receive their gifts (although nowadays few gifts fit into a shoe) !

The Party with The Three Kings biggest and best procession takes place in Palma on the eve of the 5th January is a work of many months preparation and is a memory you will treasure. The Three Kings begin their epic journey by boat, arriving at the jetty opposite the La Lonja in the old town where they start their 3 km procession around the streets of Palma.

With spectacular costumes, plenty of music, drummers and hundreds of people marching and riding on the floats, the procession winds its way through the city on a two hour journey ending at the town hall in Plaza Cort. The `Three Kings ´ make their way onto the balcony of the town hall to wave to the waiting crowds.

The Party with The Three Kings is a huge production and the city of Palma spends huge amounts to make it really special, this year including a circus, actors and a Brazilian Batucada (drumming troupe) taking part.

So come and join us for a fabulous party with The Three Kings and don´t forget to bring a very big bag of shoes!
