Son Julia Boutique Hotel is an impressively elegant 15th Century manor house, once belonging to the noble Julià family, one of the most important landowners in the area, is an absolute treasure.
Rich in history, the renovation and restoration of the Son Juliá estate in 2006 to a luxury countryside hotel has managed to retain the unique atmosphere of a private country house, allowing you to feel the grandeur of it´s past as soon as you enter the driveway.
In its central location, close to the market town of Llucmajor, it is a perfect base for either relaxing in a peaceful environment or exploring the island.
Once inside the vast entrance hall (´entrada´) you are immediately wowed by the height of the ceilings, the grand staircase and wide open corridors.
The public areas at Son Juliá Boutique Hotel are a treasure trove of original handmade furniture and unique “killim” Oriental rugs. You will also discover the work of the famous Mallorcan painter, Miquel Mesquida Sans, forming part of a permanent exhibition, as well as enjoying the beautiful handcrafted lamps and glasswork produced by the famous Gordiola workshop.
Son Juliá´s 25 sumptuously decorated rooms and impressive suites are warm and spacious, each with balconies or terraces with views over the magnificent gardens. As a savvy off-seasoner why not treat yourself to one of the two Grand Suites each offering a spacious bedroom and living area, and one of which has its own private terrace with obligatory sun beds for your afternoon siesta.
Just below stairs, you will discover the Spa and Wellness centre for pampering and re-energising you. There is a heated pool, Turkish steam baths and Jacuzzi perfect for the is off-season traveller. Treat yourself to a massage with their masseuse or a beauty treatment with one of their experienced therapists.
If you fancy trying your hand at something completely different, then now is the chance. Padel.
Invented in Mexico, by Enrique Corcuera in 1969, it is a combination of a number of racket sports, tennis, racquetball, paddleball and squash.
The game is played on a court similar to tennis but the ball is allowed to bounce off the side and back walls and the Hotel Son Julia has its own court.
You can even take lessons with a coach who can be booked upon arrival.
Well without doubt, the hotel´s gardens will take your breath away.
Some 30 acres of land planted 300 years ago, this estate was fruitful. At the turn of the century some 7,000 almond trees, 1000 fig trees and numerous orange and olive trees were recorded!
Nowadays you can enjoy an Arabic style garden, stunning in all seasons, with shady terraces, flowering Jacarandas, trimmed hedges and tropical vegetation typical to Mallorca, towering palms and groves of orange tress ( your own supply of breakfast juice ). Winding paths eventually lead you to one of the two outdoor pools.
In the near distance, you will see the recently planted Son Julia´s vineyards, producing a light, fruity white wine called “Chapren” made from the native Prensal blanc grape blended with Chardonnay. Matured by a local wine producer, sold exclusively at the hotel and delivered to your lunch or dinner table, you couldn´t imagine a more exclusive and original tipple.
Las Bovedas Restaurant serves breakfast (included in your room rate) from 08.00am - 11.00 am
For lunch and dinner, Chef Isaac Gonzalez Nieto´s stunning dishes offer elegance and sophistication, with a blend of unique ingredients served in a charming countryside setting. Using local "fresh from the market" produce, the dishes are Mediterranean with an Asian touch.
An excellent wine list accompanies all the dishes including the hotel´s own Chapren wine.
