Book me a room..
When the Portixol hotel opened in 2000, Es Portixol harbour was a very different place. But now, 15 years on, the hotel has witnessed the gentrification of this whole port area. The chic vibe that has been created has led to the hotel becoming a destination in its own right.
The cool of Scandinavian design infuses the whole hotel, from the stark white walls and blue shutters on the outside to the deep whicker sofas with their nautical covers that sit around the pool side.
The bedrooms, which are spread over four floors, include a number of categories including port view, sea view with or without a terrace. Each is furnished simply with a single wallpapered accent wall against stark white. Each room has a stereo player and DVD player with a section of films held at reception if you fancy a night in. As a low season luxury traveler you may even decide to treat yourself to the Atico, which is situated on the top floor which offers direct access into the suite from the lift. The large roof terrace with double sun beds allows stunning views of the Bay of Palma.
Each is individual but each delivers the sort of comfort we are used to from Swedish design.
Name me, if you can, a hotel which lovingly offers up precious space for a lounge housing a vinyl record player with a enormous collection of records?
It doesn’t have to be a sunny day to sit here, sip a coffee or something stronger and look at the harbour and muse. The hotel´s restaurant has for years become the place to meet offering a three course ´seaside lunch`at just €19.00 is one of the best value meals in Palma.
If it is too cold to swim outside, the spa offers an amazing menu of treatments year round and the jacuzzi is bubbling with temptation.
City or beach?
I think I´ll leave you to decide. You can throw your towel and swimsuit into a bag, stroll out and be paddling your toes minutes from the hotel.
Or you can grab one of the hotels own bikes, which are complimentary to guests, and after a short 10 minute bike ride, be parking up outside Palma´s magnificent Cathedral.
The best of both worlds and we like that!
Restaurant and bar. Two terraces and a lounge area.
Dining is accommodated inside or outside on the terrace.
The restaurant serves a ´menu del dia´ Monday to Friday for just €19 euros for 3 courses which is exceptional value for the standard of fare and very popular with the glitterati of Palma.
You can also order from a more casual menu at the bar.
